MIRAMAR
Based in Richmond, Virginia with roots in Puerto Rico and Chile
Miramar is led by the incomparable singing duo of Laura Ann Singh and Rei Álvarez—who is also the group’s principle songwriter—and keyboardist / arranger Marlysse Rose Simmons-Argandoña, the latter two both leaders of the legendary salsa band Bio Ritmo, while the three were previously together in Os Magrelos, a Brazilian band. As Miramar, the trio of Laura Ann, Rei and Marlysse and their rhythm section often perform and record with the addition of strings, which has led to regular collaborations of local string players while on tour around the globe. Miramar was also a featured artist with the Richmond Symphony during the 2020-21 season, and has performed across the United States and Europe. They are recipients of the MidAtlantic Arts Foundation US Artist International grant and have released albums on two of Brooklyn, New York’s most famed indie-labels, Barbès and Daptone Records. Miramar have performed at New York City’s globalFest and Lincoln Center’s ‘Out of Doors’ and have been featured on a variety of NPR programs such as Tiny Desk and All Songs Considered.
